Best Dog Chew Toy For Dogs Who Love To Chew -- And It's Safe
April 15, 2017
This is the best bone chew toy for dogs that love to chew, but it may take time for your dog to take a liking to it. I got this as a gift for my puppy and he had little interest in it until around 5 months or or so, and then slowly started to chew it. Now he has one of the ends chewed off and he loves it, he will sit and chew on this for 10-15 minutes easy. Like any toy he will grow tired of it after 5-15 minutes, but I like that it lasts a long time and is safe. I have read that real antlers cut up for chew toys can crack dog's teeth, I like that this is tough but not hard enough to crack dog teeth. It does have a bit of a smell once your dog chews it a long time, but only when being chewed. It isn't a really bad smell, more like bad dog breath, but it is a great dog toy and I have no complaints about it.
My boys loooove these!
March 25, 2017
I have 2 pit bulls (one is half bulldog) and have only had good luck with the Kong Xtreme toy. However, that's kind of lost its appeal to them, so I needed something new. The second we got these in the mail, they were hard on these. They continued it nonstop the whole day! They even slept with it right next to them! They really seem to love these and they seem like they'll last a decent while.
Tough Bone that Lasts
October 9, 2016
I ordered this for my 9 month old English Bulldog. He has powerful jaws and typically chews through the toughest of toys and bones. I've been trying to find something that will last because he keeps chewing through all the stuff I buy, and ends up gnawing on my coffee table! We have had this bone for about 6 weeks now, and it's still completely intact (albeit filled with teeth marks)! When we first brought it home, he chewed it constantly for hours, and generally went nuts over it. I think the flavor has completely worn off, because now he has shorter chewing sessions, but he still will chew on it for about 10 minutes a couple times a day. Overall, my crazy dog still enjoys this bone and it hasn't been pulverized into a thousand pieces, so it's been a great buy.Update: 4 months later and it is the ONLY bone/toy that my dog hasn't destroyed. He still has 5-10 minute chewing sessions every 1 or 2 days. It is still completely intact, although it is filled with hundreds bite marks. I'm going to buy him another one so he can start over with the flavor (which wore off long ago).
This is by far the best thing I have purchased for our German Shepherd puppy ...
September 29, 2016
I don't normally write reviews, so this will be short but honest. This is by far the best thing I have purchased for our German Shepherd puppy and I've bought plenty! She loves it and it keeps her engaged which is great for me. We have had it for awhile now and absolutely no destruction or dangerous broken off pieces. She has destroyed many other well-loved items, but this is tougher than her! I don't smell the bacon, but it must be there because even our older dog is attracted to this bone. What I enjoy the most is that the dogs love it and it is safe and durable. I should clarify that our puppy is 6 months old and quite capable of destroying anything she gets a hold of. I hope this product is available for years to come because this has become a necessary item to have in our home. I see very little wear on this much loved item, but she has already hidden one that I needed to replace. Best product out there! Thank you! ****UPDATE***** We have graduated to the Jumbo size and they hold up even longer than the large. If in doubt about your dog's chewing strength, get the Jumbo. We have a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix who handles and loves the large, so any large breed (even puppy), heavy chewers should go right to the Jumbo since they are now available.
I think one of the reasons she chews it so enthusiastically is because she can get a good grip on it
March 12, 2016
I purchased this chew toy because I read it is made in the USA with USA materials. I believe in trying American products whenever possible. It is well made and my Bernese Mountain Dog loves it! She has been chewing on it regularly and although the edges are rough now, there is no breakage. After a few days I noticed a reduction in the tartar on her teeth. The tartar seems to recede a bit more with each use. I think one of the reasons she chews it so enthusiastically is because she can get a good grip on it.
Perfect for Pit Bulls
November 17, 2014
After a long parade of destroyed chew toys, my one-year-old pit has finally met her match. This dog has eaten the heels off sturdy school shoes. When she was six months old, she ate all the corners off the baseboard in the family room, down to the dry-wall, while I thought she was napping. (Her sisters ate the floor boards under their puppy enclosures in their home.) The only chew toy she didn't destroy immediately on first use was a large raw beef bone, but she could go through several a week and I'm not a fan of raw dead cow in the house. I bought a Benebone as a last attempt based on the reviews.I wish I'd found these sooner. She loves it and takes it with her around the house. After a month of daily use, the three tips became a bit shaggy, which acts like a toothbrush. After five weeks, the bottom tip (if you stand it up like a "Y") has worn down to nothing, but it remains structurally sound and appears to satisfy her need to chew.I will replace it when it gets so stubby that she might swallow it. I've purchased three new ones. One to replace the one she's working on, and two for her sisters who are really loving theirs also.

The shape of them is terrific, she prefers them over anything else we've ever ...
June 18, 2017
My "Pittie Mix" dog LOVES these bones! The shape of them is terrific, she prefers them over anything else we've ever bought her to chew on! We do have to replace them fairly often though, she's a very tough "chewer", we have to take the bone away from her if she goes too long and hard on it, because little peices of it will break off if you are not careful to watch (but the instructions are very clear that you should watch for that!) Still, we buy them for her because we've yet to find anything she likes better! Worth the price of replacing!
Been loving these since 4 months old
September 28, 2016
My cockapoo has been loving these Benebone chew toys since she was 4 months old and 8 pounds. She is now one year old and 22 pounds...and still loves them. When I received my first benebone in peanut butter, I was somewhat surprised because there is absolutely no scent. I was also shocked at how hard the chew toy is. Despite my reservations, my dog loves them. It isn't unusual for her to spend a hour each day chewing away. Fortunately, I've always kept them in the house and no household items have ever gotten chewed! The great thing about the benebone is they are long lasting. I've had one for 6 months and recently just replaced it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that they come in different sizes, and this one is larger than I would have liked for my 22 pound dog. The smaller size was more appropriately sized. That's not to say that she isn't still enjoying it. Although it appears more awkward for her to carry around. The benebone isn't flat which is another reason it is a big hit with my dog. I gave it 4 stars based on the fact that given a choice, a digestible bone and this one, it isn't the first choice.
Most recent bone received doesn't seem to been of the same quality as past bones...
May 13, 2016
This is the 4th product that I have ordered from Benebone. My most recent purchase is a replacement for my dog's benebone that he chewed on for 2+ months before it was time for a new one. In addition to this one he also has a peanut butter flavored bone and the bacon benebone in the other shape. I wish I could give it 5 stars because of how much my dog LOVES these bones...Unfortunately, the bone I purchased most recently to replace the one that was worn down is not up to par with the products that I have previously received. It feels much lighter than the other bones, it feels hollow. It's almost as if this one has a plastic quality to it. When I am holding this new bone in one hand and the exact same bone in the peanut butter flavor in the other hand I can easily tell which is which because the new one doesn't seem as sturdy. He has had his newest bone for about two weeks and it already looks as chewed up as the one he chewed on for 2+ months.I'm definitely not as happy as I have been in the past, but I am hoping that this is just a fluke.
For now though I'm happy with it
April 16, 2016
It took a few minutes for her to want to pick it up so I'm not sure about the whole bacon thing. I definitely couldn't smell any bacon. I couldn't smell anything. But she's a chewer and now that she's figured out what it is we can't get it away from her so I'd say its doing its job. It's very very hard. Everyone has asked the same question, "is she going to break her teeth?" I'll update if it does. For now though I'm happy with it.
Great dog chew lasts a while, enjoyed by most every dog
September 30, 2015
These bones are great for a few small, yet significant reasons. Bottom line up front: They're great and a dog owner would be well served to pick up one or two of these as a long term chew toy your dog is almost sure to love.1) The first being the odd shape of the bones. The shape enables the dog to pick up the bones with ease rather than some of the more flat bones or chews which can lead to a struggle and frustration. The three prongs and the elevated middle portion alleviate this concern.2) These bones aren't ground material shaped into a bone shape, they are tough, plastic-like substances. They have a very subtle aroma of the flavor they are supposed to be (bacon, chicken, etc) but are completely safe for the dogs to munch on. The best part of the bones being this substance is that they last quite a long time.3) The bones are lightweight and won't hurt you if you stub your toe as you walk around the house barefoot.4) Dogs seem to love them. Only the most picky or reclusive dogs will ignore these bones.
I have two dogs who love to chew
February 23, 2015
I have two dogs who love to chew. They never got into this toy, they smelled it and let it be. However, Benebone took care of me and offered excellent customer service. I order a lot on Amazon and typically write reviews on all the products I order once every 6 months. I left a review explaining that my dogs didn't enjoy the product. That same day, I was contacted by Peter of Benebone offering to make it right. I was not expecting to get anything out of my review, I just like to share my experiences as a 'thank you' to others who review because I make a lot of buying decisions on Amazon.com based upon reviews and stars. They took care of me right away, even though my order was placed about 5 months ago. After the positive experience with their company, I took the unused bone out of my dogs toy basket and gave it to a friend who has a dog. Their dog loved it! All in all, I wish my dog would have liked the product but I do understand that each dog has their own preference just as we do as humans and I have no regrets trying the product based on their excellent customer service and I'm glad I got to tell a friend about my excellent experience with them and let their dog try the product!

I love these bones but my dog literally eats them
September 5, 2017
At first, I loved these bones for my dog. I could guess I've probably bought 8+ over the past year... Seriously she loved them. she is also an aggressive chewer and she went through each one pretty quickly- which was fine because this product still lasts longer than other products on the market. That being said, I took all her benebones away after I found that she had a hard time passing her stool and when she did pass it; there were a bunch of pieces of the bone! It surprised me and her stool felt like rice there were so many pieces in it----It was my own fault with lack of supervision over the bones. I'm not posting this to be a bad review but PSA that you should supervise your dogs when chewing this to avoid any issues if the pieces are swallowed.++++This is a great product if you supervise your dogs during use.
Chewing It More Now
April 24, 2017
Took a while for my dog to warm up to this chew toy. I do notice that he is chewing on it more now that he has scratched it up a little more and probably has more flavor.
Lint trap
February 17, 2017
Our doberman puppy absolutely LOVED this toy! The only issue is it lasted him a month, maybe a month and a half. Due to the shape of this he would hold the wider (v) side under his paws and chew almost exclusively on the other end. So needless to say it wore down quickly and although I never saw any large chunks it did have tons of tiny pieces and it become one giant lint roller. I took it from him one evening because it looked like he was chewing on a wad of hair. Gross! Everything it touched stuck to it.
Too big for pug puppy.
December 2, 2016
On my way to checkout, Amazon showed a suggestion for the bigger size wishbone. Of course I stuck to the regular size because this benebone will be for my pug puppy who loves to chew on everything. Imagine my surprise when the chew toy arrived and it's almost as big as him! I gave it to him anyway to see if it would interest him any – it did, albeit for short amount of time. I think he wants to play with it but it's too big for him to chew on. I may take it away and hide it until he's a bit bigger. Hopefully I don't forget about it in a few months.
Made my dog's mouth bleed
August 30, 2015
My 50-lb doodle mix loves this bone, but the edges get pointy and sharp and make her mouth bleed. I noticed blood on the bone within 10 minutes her first time, and I took it away. I gave it to her again today and the same thing happened. The edges jut out and get extremely sharp before being filed down and more sharp edges form. I'm going to throw it away.
Wish my dog loved this
January 27, 2015
I desperately wanted my dachshund/beagle mix to love this. "It has bits of real bacon!" I told myself. What's not to love? I pulled it out of the dog's stocking on Christmas morning, and he inspected it. A lick, a sniff, a tentative nibble, and it was abandoned. My dog adores bully sticks and enjoys rawhide chews, but he refuses to chew on any sort of Nylabone or nylon-type product. He'll go for the occasional antler (while the marrow is easily obtained) and he likes Kongs and other treat stuffable toys, but only while there are treats in the toys. He's never once chewed his Kong after the treat came out. I wish I could get him to enjoy treats that are more durable, longer lasting, and contained fewer calories, but, alas, it's like he knows how expensive this stuff is per second chewed and only goes for the expensive stuff. That said, Benebone arrived on time and seemed like it should have been a hit based on the description. Maybe the neighbor's dog will like it :)

Sorry but no good for my 20lb miniture poodle
May 3, 2017
Sorry but no good for my 20lb miniture poodle, it is way too heavy, plus her mouth is a lot smaller than that. This would work for a tougher breed spaniels and some terriers I would say. It's like carrying a 3lb bag of sugar around for her she was not intested at all, loves most chewy toys especially cow ears so this we will stick to in future. Anyway sorry about this, but that's our deal with this product. Thanks for listening.
NO SMELL AND DOGS DIDN'T CARE FOR IT
February 7, 2017
Well, my terriers may be the only ones who didn't initially like this product, but it is the case. Moreover, they were scared when it hit the ground with a bang. They are usually super-enthusiastic about EVERY single chew- or food-related product that I've ever bought for them, at least at the start. They are strong chewers. This bone didn't smell like anything straight out of the bag - and I have been told I have a superkeen sense of smell-- and is uncomfortable for them to chew on. Did I get a defective one? Why doesn't it smell like bacon? Gave 2 instead of 1 stars for an idea and being made in the U.S., but very disappointed...
Plastic comes off - dog can ingest - Not good!
December 27, 2016
My heavy-duty, one year old 50 pound hound wasn't too interested in this at the start. She loves chewing rawhides and real bones, but wasn't too interested in this. Lately, she has began chewing on it a lot more, but then itbecame sharp where she chews, and little bits of plastic shavings are coming off, and she is trying to eat them. I ended up throwing it away last night as I don't want her eating the heavy duty sharp plastic bits. Even if your dog isn't a major chewer, it becomes jagged and plastic comes off. I don't think it's very safe.
chew toy
October 27, 2016
The chew toy arrived on time, but my dog has absolutely no interest in it. Didn't chew on it even once, though he loves all other types of bones, real or manufactured. Disappointed, would not recommend.***Updated review*** After reading my review, the company offered me a full refund! I am so impressed with their customer service, you rarely if ever get this reaction. This is obviously a very good company. I only wish my dogs would like their product. Would definitely recommend trying it as my dogs seem to be in the minority!
My agressive chewing young lab won't even put it in his mouth!
May 29, 2016
For reasons (smell?) that only my dog knows, he turns away from this product. Reading the reviews here I had such high hopes that I would find something my energetic chewer, 9-month old lab would love. Although it cost more initially than other some things, I had hoped it would be less expensive in the long run than rawhides or bully sticks. Unfortunately, my dog completely turned up his nose at it! (and this from a dog who eats grass, dirt, sticks, bugs etc) I got bacon and knowing he loves peanut butter (and thinking maybe I should have got the peanut butter flavored one instead) I tried smearing some peanut butter on it. He licked it off and then again ignored the benebone. I couldn't even get him to take it into his mouth. He turns away from it. I can only wonder if there is something wrong with it? A strange chemical that I can't detect? Who knows. But it wasn't worth it.
Neither dog liked it.
July 29, 2015
Well, I knew this was a toss up, and either could be a great buy or waste of money. We rescued a 1 year old Rottie a few months ago, and he loves to chew on just about anything, so we try to keep him busy with rawhides/chew toys. I had read the reviews on this Chew Toy, and there was no way of knowing if it would last until we actually bought one..........however it took less than 6 hours and it was completely GONE. He made short work of this bone. So I gave it two stars, one star because he liked it tooooo much, and one star for the on time shipping.Review update: Well, I couldn't be more wrong about him eating this, lol. It turns out, he didn't eat it, it was under the couch! We gave it to him and our husky/wolf mix, and neither ever touched it in 3 months. I guess all dogs are different just like us humans, but neither dog will even look at it, I guess we have to stick to the rawhides.

Broke my dogs tooth!
June 5, 2017
This product had such great reviews, I bought it for my dog and he absolutely loved it. Not very long after getting it, he fractured his back molar and it got so bad it had to be removed. He's a 10 month mini golden doodle puppy, and his molar had to be removed because of this toy. The vet said toys this hard should not be sold because something has to give. And when its between a tooth and this rock hard toy, the tooth will give first.
While my pup LOVED chewing on this it was causing her to vomit
February 8, 2017
I ended up throwing mine away. While my pup LOVED chewing on this it was causing her to vomit. While she was chewing, over time, little pieces of the product would break off and become ingested. About once a week my pup would wake up and throw up a hard 1-1.5 inch clump containing the pieces of the "bone" she had ingested. I took the product away from her 2 weeks ago and she hasn't thrown up since.
DO NOT BUY THIS FOR YOUR PET!!!
October 5, 2016
This product should NOT be bought!! My dog needed something to keep her entertained while she is still in the chewing phase of being a puppy. TWO days after having this toy she stopped eating because she was having diarrhea. I was taking her out 10-15 times a night to go to the bathroom and she would still have accidents from the sudden need to go. I took her to the vet along with this toy and she had gotten a stomach bacteria from this toy that can only be treated with antibiotics. The vet bill cost $480 after the 3 different meds she needed to get better. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT BUY THIS!!!
... the wishbone chew toy since those are my dogs favorite flavors and I couldn't decide on one to buy
October 5, 2016
My dog is 60 lbs and I purchased the bacon and peanut flavor of the wishbone chew toy since those are my dogs favorite flavors and I couldn't decide on one to buy. He loved them when giving it to them. After a few days, he kept biting pieces off of them and would make a choking noise and then spit the pieces out and I had to take it away from him. I tried giving the other one cause he loved playing with the other one and the same thing happened. I am disappointed in the product. It was my first time purchasing this brand and thought that it would be long lasting after reading the reviews prior to purchasing. It didn't last long for my dog for both of them
Never again
June 7, 2016
My six month GSD mix absolutely loved this bone when I first gave it to her. Honestly she had never loved a bone like it. However, just a half hour of chewing on it, Hazel was puking everything she had eaten prior. She couldn't even keep down the quarter cup of water I tried to give her to prevent dehydration. I took a look and saw the same black specks from the bone in her vomit, which is strange because only the smallest pieces had chipped off the bone from her short time playing with it. She's never had a problem like this with other nylon bones. Had high hopes for this bone but we'll be tossing this in the trash and opting for deer antlers instead. That is, when she's better.Usually my girl is sprawled out on the couch after dinner. Here she is after no dinner and many several pukes later. :(
High hopes but fell short- revised
November 8, 2014
This started off great! Our 8 month old GSP/hound rescue took to this right away. Luckily I supervised him while he used it because it only took one afternoon for him to chew off little pieces. I immediately took it away and pried the chunk out of his mouth before he could swallow it. Later that night I woke up to him vomiting - and yep, there were little pieces of nylon. I have not tried any other chew toys, we generally stick to bully sticks but I was hopeful reading all of the reviews. I never would have guessed our puppy would be considered an "aggressive chewer" since he is not inclined to chew much of anything except the random stuffed unicorn or bull sticks...... But now we know I guess!11/14/14So..... after writing my review the company contacted me and refunded double the cost of the product suggesting that maybe it was extra sharp "puppy teeth" that led to our issue. I am open to that idea and we may try the product again down the road. I feel bad leaving my rating at 1 star after the impeccable customer attention I received but as an amazon shopper I know that many folks read both the highest and lowest reviews while deciding on purchases and it's important for others to know that breakage is possible - especially with puppies!I would highly recommend this company and their product to others with adult, less-aggressive chewers!
